ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The client brief for the Manchester based Architects, Andrew Wallace involved the design of an apartment suitable for everyday living within the shell of an industrial building, purchased from Urban Splash.
Respect for the existing architecture is shown in the subtlety of the new insertions which do not alter the impression of the old. The separation of the old and new was achieved through a curved sculptural wall that darts effortlessly in and out of the old, enabling a new programme to manifest itself separating the rituals of living, eating, sleeping, washing and working.
Natural light floods the space from the expansive glass façade which can be opened up by glazed sliding doors providing a patio sun space in summer months, or sealed to provide an acoustic and thermal buffer zone during winter months.
